Nigel Asks For A Debate On Community HospitalsNigel Evans, Member of Parliament for the Ribble Valley, today asked for a debate on community hospitals during Questions on the Business of the House of Commons. He said, “Can we have an early debate on the importance of community hospitals? Clitheroe Community Hospital is a very valuable hospital that serves the local community. Community hospitals are particularly important for rural areas where there is often an elderly community, a lack of public transport and a many people do not have access to cars. “There was a proposed £12m budget allocated for a new hospital in Clitheroe which has been frozen by the Trust whilst they look at different options. The NHS is a national health service that should, naturally, include rural areas.” Speaking afterwards, Mr Evans said, “In her response, Harriet Harman MP, the Leader of the House advised that I write to the Secretary of State for Health. “This is exactly what I am going to do on top of my meeting with the Trust board later this month.” |
