Nigel Backs Fairer Supermarket Deals For FarmersNigel Evans, Member of Parliament for the Ribble Valley, today hailed the Conservative Party’s announcement that they would create an ombudsman to settle disagreements between supermarkets and farmers which would have the power to name, shame and fine retailers who deal unfairly with suppliers. Mr Evans said, “This would represent a level of protection that farmers and other suppliers desperately need. The power of the supermarkets has meant that they have been able to dictate terms, often unfairly, to providers of perishable goods in particular. “The ombudsman would mean that farmers were no longer undermined by the power that supermarkets wield. It will also mean a better deal for consumers, allowing better quality and a more varied product choice.” |
