Nigel Evans, Member of Parliament for the Ribble Valley, today slammed the government for a lack of support for UK employers and entrepreneurs. Mr Evans, speaking during questions to the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, said that the number of young people not in education, work and training had risen by 150,000 to 750,00.

Mr Evans then cited the loss of jobs at H.J.Berrys, the oldest chair manufacturer in Britain with a loss of 85 jobs and the closure of 2 prominent well established stores in Clitheroe, Lords the shoe shop and Kaydee with a subsequent loss of jobs.

Mr Evans said it would be far better for the government to get off the back of entrepreneurs who then would be able to create the jobs for young people.

Speaking after the questions,

 Mr Evans said,

“The government simply do not understand that increasing costs on employers, like the proposed increase in employers’ national insurance contributions and all the burdensome red tape, acts as a financial deterrent on the creation of jobs.”
