Ian Brown the Conservative candidate gained the Liberal Democrat seat of Clitheroe Salthill on the Ribble Valley Council in a by election by 4 votes RV Conservative Association Vice Chairman and agent Terry Hill commented '' I am delighted that Ian Brown was duly elected as the RVBC Councilor for Salthill and will be joining the Conservative Group on the Ribble Valley Borough Council. It was a very close call - he won by 4 votes with the the Lib Dems coming second in a 25% turnout. Unfortunately the Town Council election went the other way with Simon O'Rourke the LIberal democrat winning by 8 votes. UKIP trailed a poor third in both elections and Labour were trounced with a disasterous showing in fourth place with only 40 votes ''. Ian Brown added '' I would like to thank all the voters who voted for me and those who worked so hard in the by-election . I am honoured to serve all the people of Salthill whether they supported me or not, in every way that can, to be the best of my ability . My aims will be to help improve the affordable housing for the people of Clitheore and increase the investment in the town with a view to preserving and increasing the number of jobs available to residents .'' On behalf of the Association senior vice chairman Ken Hind said, '' I would like to congratulate Ian on his election and for all his hard work in this election .Particular thanks go to Terry Hill who acted as agent and led a strong hard working team that brought success in this election. This result continues the increase in Clitheoroe Conservative councillors. We won the second seat in Salthill in 2007 by 1 vote and then in May 2011, Councillor Pam Dowson topped the poll to hold that seat . '' The Conservatives now hold 34 of the 40 seats on the Ribble Valley Borough Council , the remainder being 1 independent and 5 Liberal democrats . The Labour Party are without an elected representative in the Ribble Valley at both Borough and County level. |
