Nigel Evans, Member of Parliament for the Ribble Valley and Fulwood, today encouraged Ann Widdecombe, Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald, to stand for nomination as Speaker of the House of Commons.
Speaking from Westminster, Mr Evans said:
“The institution of Parliament is in need of serious reform. I would like to see Ann Widdecombe in the Speaker’s chair helping to lead that reform. She has served her constituents with distinction for many years. She is well-respected across the House and well-known across the country for her integrity, independence and high moral standing. I hope she will put her name forward and if she decides to stand, I will back her all the way”.
