Friday, 23 June, 2017

My name in Ikenna Henry Onyebuchi, I am an Old Stonyhurst boy that graduated from Stonyhurst College in 2016; now I am a first year law student at the University of Exeter. On Monday 19th of June 2017, I started a work experience placement at the House of Commons for a week. In the fantastic company of Nigel Evans MP, along with his staff; I have delved into the workings of the government and its everyday duties in more depth. Due to my year of studying law, I was able to draw links between legal and political processes, helping understand better the issues that the British government are faced with today. I have engaged in intellectual conversations that have added to my knowledge, and under the outstanding mentoring of Nigel Evans MP, I have been able to gain a rewarding once in a life time experience, I will cherish for a long time. From meeting various MPs to attending television interviews with Nigel Evans MP and his staff, my job has been nothing short of exciting. I engaged in tasks that ranged from drafting press releases to research work on issues the government are faced with, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Working under Nigel Evans MP, has been both remarkable and an honour; it has also increased my interest in politics. Nigel Evans MP has stated, “it is always great to have students from the Ribble Valley participate in work experience at Parliament. It is a two way learning process.”
